Our Story

The Prince Albert Panthers were founded in 2019 with a simple idea — to give women and girls in our community a chance to experience rugby. We started as a small junior team with big dreams, driven by passion, teamwork, and the belief that rugby builds strength both on and off the field.
When COVID-19 hit, our season — and our momentum — came to a halt. Like many small programs, we faced uncertainty about what the future would hold. But our passion for the game never faded. In 2024, that spark reignited. With the return of dedicated players, new faces eager to learn, and growing community interest, the Panthers came back with a renewed sense of purpose.
Today, the Panthers include both junior and senior players. Our focus is on rebuilding, expanding, and creating a sustainable program that gives women and girls in Prince Albert a place to grow in the sport. Right now, most practices and games take place in Saskatoon, which makes it harder for new players to join and for our team to truly root itself in our community. Our long-term goal is to change that.
We’re working to increase local recruitment so we can practice and compete right here in Prince Albert. We want rugby to be accessible — not something players have to travel for. By building a strong local base, we’ll make it easier for athletes to participate, families to support, and fans to connect with the team.
Our mission is to build a rugby program rooted in Prince Albert — one that empowers women, engages the community, and inspires future players to take the field.
Currently, due to low numbers, our players have to travel to Saskatoon for practices and games. This can make participation difficult and slow the growth of women’s rugby in Prince Albert.
By expanding local recruitment and developing players at every level, from grassroots juniors to seniors, we aim to train and compete right here in Prince Albert, reduce travel, strengthen community support, and inspire the next generation to pick up the ball.
